Bayt UK is a series of guides to make living and thriving in the UK a lot easier for resettled refugees.
Everyone needs help in starting out, settling in and building the skills to successfully integrate into UK society.
Abdulrhman is a 23 year old Syrian student who has taken this journey himself. He and his family were forced to abandon their home in Aleppo and flee the war. They then endured a tough journey on foot to Turkey after Abdulrhman’s father lost leg but finally in 2018 they were granted refugee resettlement to the UK.
Coming from a very different cultural background, Abdulrhman faced many challenges when he first arrived in London but he managed to enrol in university and volunteer to help other refugees. Bayt UK is the guide he wishes he had when he was trying to find English classes, to apply for a job so he could help support his family and understand why English people talk a lot about tea and the weather.
In partnership with Abdulrahmn, IOHR has created Bayt UK as a guide in Arabic to share his experience with other refugees to make their journey to their new life in the UK as pain free and enjoyable as possible. Abdulrahmn is now proud to call the UK his home and to share his journey with everyone.
